WEB DESIGN, WORDPRESS, SOCIAL MEDIA, HTML, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, LINKEDIN, GOOGLE+...UGGH, its all too much!!!
How is a print designer like me suppose to figure out all these platforms and still function sanely in this digital world we live in?
I am a graphic designer who has worked in this field for the past 12 years and love what I do. I found my passion late in life, but once I did, I was hooked! I focused mainly on print, creating logos, brochures, business cards and more, but for the past couple of years I have noticed the trend in web design and social media growing exponentially and realized I have no choice but to get on this bandwagon. To be honest, it is completely overwhelming for me. To start learning again in what feels like a foreign territory, is CRAZY. Yet if I keep putting it off, I know I will have missed the boat.
Keeping Up With The Digital Jones, is a blog about the challenges I face daily as a designer, a business owner & a mother trying to adapt in a technical world that is moving at cyber speed all around me.
While I have acquired knowledge in social media and web design, I am challenging myself to learn more, and adapt to this ever changing digital world. Today there are plenty of resources available which allow a designer like myself to venture out and learn from others.
Going through the process of learning new skills will not be easy, but by doing so, I will have opened up new possibilities in my business.
So where do I start??? Well, I think right here!
Blogging is definitely not in my comfort zone. You would have asked me 2 months ago if I thought I would ever be blogging and I would have said "not a chance". While I may have jumped in with both feet, I feel I need to get better acquainted with the do's and don'ts.
I have found 2 resources to help me with my first challenge.
- Lynda.com, which is subscription based website that has great online video tutorials.
- HowtoBlogDesign.com , created by Ro Little, who gives tips on how to create and design your own blog.
My hope, once I have tackled this challenge is to start blogging regularly and to keep learning one new skill at a time so I can
Keep Up With The Digital Jones,
Cheers,
Joelle
